        • Between the Sun & Moon

What if the man at the crossroads says you sold your soul

          - when you didn't?

The upcoming album release by Steve Brooks

        • The Album

Between the Sun & Moon is a collection of songs in the Modern Folk Rock genre that begin with a question:

What would happen if you were tricked into believing you sold your soul?

The new concept album tells the story of a musician seeking a way to express the inexpressible.

Along the way, a "meeting at the crossroads" becomes the first step towards finding the only road to redemption -

          not selling out to fear.

        • The Story

Not your typical meeting at the crossroads...

Lost Between The Sun & Moon

With evening coming on, you meet "the man at the crossroads". With a wild look about him, he locks eyes with you and for some reason you can't look away. The full moon has risen in the East, and the sun - while still completely visible - is just about to set in the West.

You intend to ask directions of him, and as the words begin to form in your mind, he says:

"I'll give you a piece of my mind you won't forget! The quickest way to your goal is left. However, if you prefer the longer, more scenic route, proceed straight through the crossroads. Either way, you pay me a toll".

Two thoughts enter your mind simultaneously, confusing you. There's something clearly "off" about this guy, but you were told in the town you just passed through that he knows his way around. As you wonder what "a piece of his mind" means, you also consider that you prefer to stop and smell the roses. With your mind divided, and as you prepare to collect your thoughts, you say to nobody in particular:

          "OK".

Just then, there's a look in the eye of the man that you hadn't seen before - a depth of pain & sorrow, combined with a kind of self satisfied smirk that most definitely is not the look of a helpful soul giving guidance.

"You've taken a piece of my mind, now you must pay", he says.

You realize he thinks you were agreeing to pay the toll.

"I wasn't talking to you! I don't know who you think you are old man, but I haven't taken anything from you".

Insanely, he says : "Say what you will, but you've already given me much in return... The toll can wait, but in the end, you will pay!"

At this point you've had enough, and you continue on your way - straight through the crossroads. You're scared now, and as you walk on down the road, he says: "you'll get yours", and then the words that will haunt you: "It's all just a game!" They echo in your mind as the sound of his voice evaporates to silence.

This is the crux of "Between The Sun & Moon", a concept album about walking through the night towards the rising sun of a new day. As you journey through the darkness, you have the light of the full moon to guide your way, and you remember that moonlight is really the light of the sun, reflected.

The nine songs tell the stages of the passage: departure, the crossroads, the darkest part of the journey, false dawn, the search for companionship, three painful but helpful muses, and sunrise:

          1) The Eastbound Road (Departure)

          2) I Wasn't Talkin' To You (The Crossroads)

          3) Shaman (The Depth of The Journey)

          4) Everything Is You (False Dawn)

          5) Where Are You? (The Seeker)

          6) The Worst Best Thing (Carmen)

          7) Between The Sun & Moon (Tara)

          8) Just Another Song (Louise)

          9) She Comes Around (Sunrise - Penelope)
